JICC SUNDAY SCHOOL

JICC Sunday school now referred as “Madressa” is an Islamic educational school operating under the umbrella of the “Jafri Islamic Centre of Canada” (JICC), Windsor, Ontario and attending to the religious needs of the children according to the Jaffari faith and belief. The primary role of the Madressa is to share the parents' responsibilities of providing religious education to their children and supplying an atmosphere where a child can learn Islamic values and understand his/her Islamic duties. The ones to provide an atmosphere where the child can live by the Sharia and always will remain the responsibility of the parents.

This handbook is published with the intent of laying a foundation for greater understanding among the parents, students and teachers. The following expectations are formulated in the hope of forging and promoting the critical Parent-Student-Teacher partnership, relationship that is based on commitment, trust and a genuine desire to see the students excel in their Islamic education.

Although this is a Sunday school only, we are committed to enhance Islamic teachings, morals and values in our students. These include mutual respect, discipline, responsibility and modesty. We attempt to develop a sense of responsibility and accountability in each student for his/her own learning, behavior, and his /her ability to learn with others.

The teachers and administrators at our school are volunteers from our community who truly deserve our collective gratitude. They dedicate their valuable time and experience to impart Islamic education. Their endless efforts to this noble cause is highly respected and appreciated.

Parent's responsibilities:

  1. To ensure that their child attends school/Madressa regularly and on time.

  2. To monitor their child's Madressa/school work by ensuring that homework is completed and by encouraging his/her accomplishments.

  3. To provide the Madressa.school with feedback and constructive suggestions.

  4. To notify the Madressa/school in case of a prolonged absence of two weeks or more, and make arrangements to compensate for the classes missed by their children.

  5. To teach and reinforce the importance of respecting teachers and peers, paying attention in class, and following teacher instructions.

  6. To pick up their child from Madressa/school at 3.00 pm

Student’s responsibilities:

  1. To attend the Madressa regularly and on time. Obtain permission from teacher, if needs to leave during school hours.

  2. To attend classes with appropriate textbooks, handouts, and necessary supplies.

  3. To come to Madressa ready to learn, participate in class, and with all assigned homework completed, including preparation for tests and quizzes.

  4. To conduct themselves in a courteous and responsible manner and use appropriate language at all times

  5. To be respectful, polite and cooperate with other students, teachers and volunteers.

  6. To eat or drink only during break.

  7. To play only in the designated area during break time.

  8. To keep the Madressa/school tidy, not liter, and respect Madressa/school property.

  9. Do not bring electronic accessories and gadgets. Pagers and cell phones must be turned off during classes. It is preferred that students do not bring these or any other items that may distract their attention.

  10. Homework should be completed to enable continuity and to reinforce lessons taught in class. Failure to do so may disrupt the flow of a student's progress.

Registration:

Admission is open to all Muslims 4 years of age or older.

The process of admission for all students requires the following:

  1. Completion of Registration Form.

  2. Payment of fees.

*Prospective students will then be assessed and placed in the appropriate class.

Communication:

The Madressa/school will try its best to keep parents informed of activities via memos, e-mails, or telephone.

Fees:

JICC Sunday school/Madressa fees are payable once a year or monthly upon registering. The fee structure is $100 base fee per child per year (or $15 per month), $175 for two children and a maximum of $250 for a family, any number of children. Payments can be made by cash or check. Financial assistance will be available for those who are unable to pay the tuition fee. The school is run on a no profit and no loss basis and the amount remaining at the end of school session will be distributed according to the school administration decision.

Books and Supplies:

To the extent possible, the Madressa/school will provide resource materials needed for instruction, which will be used throughout the year.

The Madressa/school requires the students to provide their own necessary supplies e.g. binders, writing paper, pens, pencils, etc. Please label all items accompanying the students to the Madressa/school.

Student Evaluation:

Teachers will evaluate the students by homework assignment and periodic quizzes or tests. The Madressa will recognize students for their achievements and such students will be rewarded.

Attendance:

The scheduled class begins at 12 P.M. prompt and end at 3 P.M. The Madressa/School requires full parental support to ensure that students are in class by 12 P.M. Attending the Madressa/school regularly and punctually is the responsibility of the student and parents. Pickups thereafter are subject to penalty and not the responsibility of JICC administration. The penalty will be a late charge in the amount of $5 for the first 10 minutes and $1 for every minute after that. In case of an emergency, please call the office and make plans with your child teacher or The School Administration.

Dress Code:

We are trying to provide full sleeve top and looking for sponsors. Until then, modest clothing is recommended for both boys and girls.

Emergencies:

Parents will be contacted to pick up their child in case of an emergency or if a child is not well during the Madressa hours. It is crucial for the parent to ensure that any changes or updates of parent/guardian contact information are relayed to the child’s teacher or the School Administration.

Medication during Madressa hours:

Due to limited Madressa/school hours, and to maintain the safety of the child, the Madressa/school cannot take the responsibility for administer regular medication. At all times the responsibility for such medical treatment rests with the parents/guardian.

Fire Regulation:

All students must be made aware of the following fire procedures.

1. Upon hearing the fire alarm, students and teachers must exit the room.

2. The teachers will lead the class out to the field area in an orderly manner, as far away from the building as possible.

3. Once the whole class is out, the teacher will take attendance.

4. The teacher will lead his/her class back inside only when the building has been deemed safe by authorities.

Lost and Found:

Please check with your child’s teacher for any misplaced belongings.

Visitors:

Parents/visitors are welcome and encouraged to visit the Madressa, meet our staff and express interest in our operation. However, all parents/visitors must make prior arrangements with the School Administration so that they can be properly received and attended to.

Donations and Fundraising:

JICC is a non-for-profit organization and depends largely on donations, which are encouraged and accepted throughout the year. Please donate generously and contribute to enhance and improve the learning environment. To donate, please contact JICC president or the School/Madressa administration.

Becoming a Madressa Participant:

JICC Sunday school/Madressa is 100% dependant on volunteers who are crucial partners in building student success and in enhancing the School/Madressa’s capacity to impart religious knowledge. We therefore request and encourage full participation of parents, graduated students and other volunteers at the School/Madressa.

Requirements to become a participant in the School/Madressa as a teacher or a volunteer are as follow:

  1. Commitment and punctuality.

2. Basic teaching skills and compassion for children.

3. Adherence to the beliefs of the Shia Ithna - Asheri Faith.
